What do we do with metabarcoding sequences? It is not the complete ITS so it could not itself be representative of a new lineage. And if we have a metabarcoding sequence that does not match an already described lineage, but matches a sequence available in GenBank, can we use the other sequence as a representative of the new lineage?

We have a unique ITS sequence (clear and complete ITS), which does not match any previously described lineage and no match in GenBank, can we name it as a new lineage? Or should we designate it as a Single Occurrence Sequence (SOS) waiting for a future match?

I think we should have a consensus view on this issue.
